Oklahoma transgender student dies after allegedly assaulted by students at school

The death of transgender student Nex Benedict, following a brutal assault in an Oklahoma school bathroom, has sparked widespread outrage and sorrow. Benedict, a sophomore at Owasso High School, was attacked by three older girls on February 7, leading to their hospitalization and subsequent death the next day. The incident has drawn national attention and raised concerns about the safety of transgender and nonbinary students in schools. Benedict's grandmother cited months of bullying, exacerbated by state policies targeting transgender students, leading to the tragic outcome. As investigations continue, the tragedy highlights the urgent need for inclusive environments in educational institutions and the protection of LGBTQ+ students from discrimination and violence.

LGBTQ+ activists in Japan call for the right for same-sex couples to marry

In Tokyo, activists and LGBTQ+ community members celebrated Valentine's Day by distributing colorful chocolate candy, marking the fifth anniversary of their fight for marriage equality in Japan. Since 2019, over a dozen couples have filed lawsuits across Japan, with most rulings deeming the exclusion of same-sex couples unconstitutional. At a rally, individuals expressed hope for increased awareness and support. Despite recent legal advancements, such as the recognition of LGBTQ+ awareness and a Supreme Court ruling against compulsory sterilization for transgender individuals, many feel marginalized by the law.
