Identity

I am someone who loves the culture of drag. There are so many different kinds of drag performances, some explicit and some child-friendly. The fact that conservatives are pigeonholing all drag performances as explicit is a way to silence real Americans living in America. I wanted to make this presentation to show people both my age and not that you should be true to yourself and not try to fit in.

 I had to do a lot of research for this project. I gained the ability to write a policy brief, which was a genre I hadn't done before. Since I also referenced many real laws in my policy brief, I needed to learn how to read court decisions and legal documents.

Since my topic is controversial in today's media, I had to research different angles of why these laws were passed. What truly was the reason that the LGBTQ+ community is getting discriminated and are the reasons valid? The conclusion was that the reasons were not valid as the reasons were because drag queens are "grooming" children. These lawmakers are pointing the blame on innocent people when really, they should be looking within. 

As referenced before, lawmakers should stop focusing on drag queens "grooming" or "indoctrinating" children since there have been multiple politicians, priests, teachers, and more who have been found in possession of child pornography and other child sex crimes. If politicians really cared about children, they would not ban drag queens, they would ban guns.

Drag as a whole is an art form. Whether you like it or not, that's up to you, but to shut drag performers and their fans around the country is something that shouldn't happen. Drag has always been something to celebrate differences, to show people that the world doesn't have to be just black and white
