It only takes a second

A second where they overtake you

No matter what you do

They can just take and take and take

Till you're only a shell of yourself

It can happen anywhere

The subway

The park

A family gathering

So why here?

Why now?

Society tells you you're lying

So you have to stay silent

But then the silence becomes so loud

And you can't hear anything

Nothing but your screams

The screams replaying in your head

You try to speak

But your voice is stuck in your chest

You can't escape

You can't let it out

Help

The physical feeling of pain

Burning your skin

In so many ways

Ways that are too taboo to speak

Taboo

A word that is stupid

A word that needs to leave

Cause no topic nor a topic as severe

Needs to be taboo

It's over

But is it really?

The feeling that is felt that never goes away

An imprint

Left in the skin like a hot iron

Spending hours in the shower

Scrubbing away

Leaving the skin raw

It's still there

It will always be there

No matter how hard you try

You still remember

Remember the pain

Remember the screams

Remember the feeling

Both inside and out

Are you uncomfortable?

Yes, you

The person reading this

The person listening to this

The uncomfortable feeling that is binding

Restricting your movement

So you can't get away

Stop

The world is unfair

Believe me I know

But someday

One day

You will find a way

Away to dig out of this hole

The hole that society forcibly put you in

The hole that you accepted

But no more

You are better than this

And if no one else believes in you

I want you to know

I believe in you
